Sunset Magazine's Five Great Mother's Day Brunches — May 2005
The diabolically decadent hot spot is outfitted with kitschy wood accents and cushy vintage sofas. Nosh on savory eggs Benedict crowned with made-from-scratch Hollandaise, excellent waffles, and French specialties like the croque monsieur.
Colorado Avid Golfer's Holy Chow — Spring 2005
It's homage to everything diabolically devilish and rich—with no apologies to those harboring haloes.
Denver Post's Favorite Wine Lists—February 23, 2005
Here's proof that size isn't everything when it comes to wine lists. The small space and minimal menu is expertly complimented by a minimal wine list—just 10 wines—each chosen in keeping with the tone of the food (fresh, unfussy, and expertly executed) and prices (as amazingly low as the food prices). And if you don't like the wines this week, go back next week:

Wise folks say, among other things, that "all good things are worth waiting for." We think that applies to the reopening of the expanded—in size and services—Devil's Food Bakery.
Gerald and Angela Shorey have been providing wonderfully decadent European pastries, cakes, cookies, scones and the like to the East Washington Park community, and those wise enough to travel from outlying areas, for the past five years.
The pair had longed to expand upon Gerald's considerable talent as a chef (he honed his skills at such notable eateries as Tante Louise and The Brown Palace) by offering a more substantial menu, but the limitations of their tiny space put the issue on hold until last year, when the pizza shop next door went out of business, the space became available and their dreams awakened.
After a much lengthier -than-planned closure for needed renovation, Devil's Food reopened last month with a greatly expanded menu offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner, in addition to their trademark sweets.
